Country Music: Known for its narrative lyrics and accompaniment of stringed instruments, country music is most popular with Americans with an audience of approximately 76 million. Originating in the 1920s in the Southern U.S., country music gained popularity in the 1940s under a previous name called “Hillbilly Music”. The first commercial country record released was made by Eck Robertson in 1922 under the Victor Records music label.
