The Invention of Air Travel: December 17th, 1903 marks the date mankind achieved sustained and controlled flight and is regarded as the most important date in aviation history. This was achieved by the Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville who developed the first heavier-than-air powered aircraft. The aircraft was named the Wright Flyer – the first aircraft in human history that flew for a recorded time of 101.5 seconds.
