The meaning of the verbs "conocer" and "saber" is very close; they can both be translated as the English verb know. Generally speaking, "conocer" implies a familiarity with someone or something, to meet a person; while "saber" refers to our know how; the things we have learned, such as abilities or our knowledge of facts. For example: Conozco a María desde la guardería- I've known Maria since kindergarten // Nos conocimos en Barcelona - We met in Barcelona. // No sé quien es María - I don't know who María is // No sé dónde está Barcelona - I don't know where Barcelona is.
