The benefits to learning a new language are unquestionable.

Strong language skills are an asset that will promote a lifetime of effective communication. Our language is the most important part of our being.

The importance of communication is often overlooked, but the benefits we reap from learning a new language will enrich your life in so many ways.

It is conceited to believe that one can travel the world and expect all of mankind to understand his or her native tongue. In order to travel the world, whether for business or pleasure, a desire and willingness to adapt to new cultures and methods is necessary.

Language is extremely interesting,  diverse in culture and rich in history. Each individual has his own way of communicating, whether with spoken words, written words or body-language. We are communicating every day, and learning a different language will increasingly impact your thinking of yourself, and the world around you.

Here are 5 benefits to learning a new language:

1. Feed your brain

Learning a new language feeds your brain. There are many cognitive benefits of learning a new language. People who speak multiple languages have improved memory, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as high concentration, ability to multitask and brilliant listening skills.

2. Connect

Our ability to connect with others is very rewarding and being able to communicate with someone in their mother tongue is an everlasting gift! Being bilingual gives you the opportunity to communicate with a wide range of people all around the globe. You will shape lasting friendships and you will be humbled by the experience of understanding a different mother tongue.

3. Advance your career

Knowing a different language immediately sets you apart from your unilingual peers. No matter your sector, employers are always seeking professionals who can communicate effectively with customers from around the world, which normally leads to increased salaries and better job opportunities.

4. Deepen your understanding of other cultures

Language is the direct connection to different cultures. Being able to communicate in a different tongue, makes us understand and value other traditions, arts and cultures that are not our own. Understanding culture often leads to a better understanding of people, which makes us more tolerant and acceptive of others.

5. See the world

To travel the world is a life changing experience, and to understand the local language will enhance your experience. If you can communicate in a different language, you will be able to connect and interact with places and its people.
