There are plenty of ways that you can learn English. However, only a few of them are going to be effective.

We shall assume that you have already got in touch with a tutor here on Justlearn. You really can't learn English without a bit of guided learning. helping you. However, this isn't all you need to do in order to learn English. You need to go out there and actually experience the language, and there is only one way you can do that.

Surround yourself with English

If you want to learn English, then you need to surround yourself with the language. Try to incorporate as much English into your day-to-day life as you possibly can. We are going to give a couple of examples in a short while!

The purpose of surrounding yourself in English is to help you to live and breathe the language. It is no secret that those that live in foreign countries have an easier time picking up a language than those that attempt to learn the language from their home country. This is because when you are faced with a language daily, you have no choice but to absorb the way the vocabulary and grammatical rules.

Let us tell you a little bit about how you can accomplish this.

Speaking

The speaking part should be dead simple. You just need to find yourself an English speaker and have a conversation with them. You should be doing this as early as possible when you start to learn English. It doesn't matter that your vocabulary is not quite there yet. It matters that you are practicing the language.

Reading

A good chunk of the internet is written in English, so you probably won't have that many problems on this front either.

To make things a little bit easier for yourself, we suggest that you read about things that you are interested in. This way, you have a much bigger chance of picking up words that you will actually use.

Don't forget to read the news too. BBC News is great for this. Their news is very 'straight to the point' with no fluff. Sentences tend to be nice and short when discussing even complicated matters too. This means that it should be easy to read for somebody learning English.

Listening

You have a couple of options to surround yourself with English here. We love to talk radio, but some people also find that listening to a lot of English songs helps too. In fact, even watching TV can help here.

Most of your listening should be active listening. This means that you should be trying to make sense of what is being discussed. However, since you are trying to naturally absorb the language, we also suggest that you just flick the TV or radio on and have it in the background while you do other things. Your brain will start to get in tune with the sounds of English.

Writing

Again, plenty of options available. Write your own personal blog posts. Interact with native English speakers on online forums. Your language skills are probably going to be quite terrible at the start. However, the more you write, the easier things will become. Don't be afraid to just practice!

Conclusion

The best way to learn English is to get yourself an English tutor and start to absorb the language through a variety of different methods. If you do that, then you will be speaking English like a pro in next-to-no time at all.
