My name is Alhasan Diab, I'm from Damascus, Syria, and I've been living here since I was born. Even though my occupation is dentistry, I've always wanted to work in the Computer and Tech field. There is a lot of personal stuff to talk about, but briefly, I'm an open-minded, unsatisfied, ambitious, and intellectual guy. I speak Arabic as it's my mother tongue, and I speak English fluently. I also have average skills in German, in which I got a B1 certificate from Goethe-Institute. My favourite kind of music is Opera, Classical, Jazz, Country, and Rock. Unfortunately, the only country I've visited is Lebanon. Regarding my education, I studied Dentistry at Damascus University and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry. I wouldn't consider myself an introvert, however, I have foreign friends online more than the ones in real life. I have always been into learning more about other cultures, languages, and countries. To be honest, teaching Arabic isn't my major, and as earlier stated, I have a Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry. I don't have a professional degree or license in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. However, firstly, I'm an educated native Arabic speaker, and I have been teaching Arabic as my 2nd job (MSA + Levantine) to foreigners for more than two years on other platforms. Today, I have great experience in helping foreigners speak this language and overcome their difficulties in Arabic. I have given numerous lessons to more than 50 students from all over the world (US, UK, Europe, South Africa, South Korea, Brazil and China). Secondly, as native speakers from Syria, we study Modern Standard Arabic from the age of 4. We study it in reception, primary, middle, high school, and even in tertiary education. Also, Syrian universities are the only universities in the world that teach Medicine or Dentistry in Arabic. In other words, we speak in our dialect, which is Levantine, and it's the clearest and closest Arabic dialect to Fusha. Plus, unlike other Arabic countries, where they study in English or French, we study MSA our entire lives. What makes it easy for me to communicate with people from all over the globe is that I speak English fluently. I have been learning, speaking, and using English since I was a very little child, and I would consider myself an upper-advanced English speaker. I got a band of 7.5 out of 9 in IELTS. I also speak German, however, I don't speak it fluently in which I could say I'm an intermediate German speaker with B1 Certificate from Goethe-Institute. Moreover, I have a decent experience in translation from English to Arabic and vice versa which I gained while working as a freelance language service provider (Translation, Transcription, Subtitling, MT Post-editing) on several freelancing platforms. That improved my writing skills in both English and Arabic dramatically. I created my own social media pages where I post useful and professional charts, graphics, and posts that will help foreign students to improve their Arabic for free. Also, I started my Arabic podcast (MSA & Levantine) where my students can improve their listening and comprehension skills in Arabic, and also improve their pronunciation, fluency, grammar and enrich their vocabulary. My students will also learn useful phrases, expressions and idioms in both (MSA & Levantine). I'm planning to begin uploading educational videos on Youtube and very soon and promote this amazing platform on my channel. Note: I didn't mention any of my social media, podcast, or my teaching profiles on other platforms, so I don't violate your terms of service. However, I would be glad to provide more details if I'm required to do so. I believe teaching the language ought to be flexible in that every person is learning the language for different personal reasons. That's why I want to help the learners to achieve what they are seeking in Arabic. So, I focus on these points in my teaching methodology: - Improve speaking/conversation skills (beginners, intermediates, advanced): The huge majority of my students want to learn how to speak in the Levantine dialect. So I help them to learn useful and essential grammar and rules, then we dive into real and practical conversations. For example, topics like Shopping, hobbies, asking for directions, how to introduce themselves, job phrases, how to have small talk, talking about food, cultures, news and so on. - Improve Listening and comprehension capabilities in Modern Standard Arabic, and Levantine by speaking with them and having real conversations with them and sending them voice records outside the class. - Enhance writing skills. Many of my students are learning Arabic because they want to write articles, reports, manuscripts, or even they want to create their blogs in Arabic. So I help them to express their ideas in Arabic and correct their grammatical mistakes and teach them the writing style in Arabic. - Give grammar lessons and correct grammatical mistakes - Enrich the vocabulary, provide synonyms and so on - Give a myriad of useful Arabic phrases, terms, words, questions, answers, idioms, etc. Plus, I give assignments, and I correct them in my free time (outside the class). During the class (and outside the class), I'll provide useful and graphically-appealing design materials such as PDF files, Flash Cards, Images, Graphs, Charts, Tables, and most importantly, audio files (voice records).

What is the most important qualification that you should look out for in choosing a tutor?
Above all else, it's important for you and your tutor to be able to communicate in a common language. It may not be English because the tutor might be fluent in your native tongue, too. But if the tutor you chose is a native speaker of the language you want to learn and isn't fluent with your native language and you know how to speak in English, then make sure he can speak English, too.
What should you expect in learning a language?
Learning a new language takes time, lets you put in a bit more effort and resources to make it work. If you have a specific timeframe that you're following, then you'll need more of the three aspects to learn it. You should also expect that if it's just a bit too difficult for you, then you have to be open to your tutor about your difficulties so that what you've invested on will not go to waste. In that way, your tutor will be able to make adjustments and will help you achieve your goal.
How can you be more effective in learning a language?
Always be attentive in your lessons and when you're done with them, make sure that you are able to practice and apply what you learned. Your tutor will give you tips on how to practice on your own and might give you homework. If the tutor doesn't, then you can ask for it so you can keep practicing off schedule. You always have to help yourself while you're on your own so that when you're already out there and speaking with the locals, it's not that hard to pick up on what you learned anymore.
What factors should you consider in learning a language online?
Learning a language online needs you to invest in a good internet connection, if you don't have any yet, because it's the only way to work with a tutor. You also have to invest your time and if time is difficult to spare, you might as well choose a platform that allows you to choose your own schedule. You also need space, like a quiet room, where you can speak with the tutor and be able to focus on your lessons.
How can you help your language tutor be effective in teaching you?
Always be attentive with what your tutor is teaching you. It's the only way for you to understand and learn easily. Make sure that you follow the schedule that you agreed on or what you choose for yourself if that's how it works. You also have to participate in the activities that your tutor has planned for you because these have been tailored fit with the requirements that you have set. If you are asked to practice during the days when you don't have lessons, you have to religiously do so.
What kind of language tutor should you choose?
It really depends on your learning style. If you think you can learn better if the person is more of someone who teaches professionally then you can find someone who teaches that way. If you're the type who learns while just talking to the teacher, then you can opt for someone who's friendly, enthusiastic and fun but still focusing on the lesson at hand. Always read a tutor's personal introduction so you have a bit of an idea who they are and how they teach.
What's the advantage of hiring a tutor?
It's an advantage to hire a tutor because lessons will be customized for you and you'll be guided in learning them to make it more effective for you. You can easily interact with them and ask them to elaborate if something's not really that clear to you. They will also be able to give you feedback on your progress with your lessons and how far along you are in achieving your goals in learning the language.
How can learning a language benefit me other than being able to communicate with it?
Studies have proved that learning languages can help you with other mental processes as it sharpens your thinking skills. There's significant improvement in your memory, enhances your concentration, it helps you be able to multitask with ease and improves your listening comprehension skills. It also helps you solve problems easily because it enables you to critically be able to think to come up with effective solutions.
What should be your mindset so you can learn a new language easily?
If you already have a particular language in mind because you have goals to achieve, prepare yourself to learn it and be mentally ready to take risks. There will be times that you will struggle but it should always challenge you to work harder and do better. You have to be optimistic and determined that no matter how many obstacles you have, you're still willing to make it happen and be fluent in the language you want to learn.
How important is motivation in learning a language?
Before you decide to learn a new language, you have to be able to answer the question, "Why do you really want to learn?" It could be because you'll get a promotion at work, or for a new relationship, or because you want to get better grades in school and etc. There are many reasons why you want to push yourself to learn. Your reasons why you have to learn affects the level of motivation that you exhibit in learning and it also shows in the progress that you achieve.
