Dracula's Lament

I love being depressed.

It creates excuses for my lackluster behavior and it allows me to be comfortably numb while not lifting a finger.

My friends and family will always support me no matter what if I just say that I am depressed, thing is I am depressed but I feel lucky for being so. It's simple really, imagine if you were not depressed yet you still didn't feel like doing anything, and you'd dread every process that required effort, sounds pretty miserable right? Well when you're depressed you not only have an excuse that works on yourself, but also have others indulging you which allows you to keep being lazy and comfortably numb.

There is the ocasional burst of energy that gives you the confidence to burst through the thick cloud of sorrow, but you don't really believe that you are as good or as driven as other people. Everyone else looks like that got it all figured out, everyone is so focused on showing their strenghts and achivements to strike envy in order to feel less miserable. It is true that our happiness is based on a vampiric culture. You only feel good when you can shove your sucess on some's face, knowing you are in a better position than they are.
Let's put it in prespective with the following example: let's say you want the latest new iphone model, nicest car and biggest mansion, more than 50% of the pleasure you're taking in these things is by making others envious of you, you suffer therefore I am happy.
You can be happy for other people just as long as their happiness and sucess doesn't exceed your own.

Globalization and social media created a culture of instant gratification, our dopamine receptors are a complete mess and the only thing that can anestezise our constant boredom and depression is making sure you show the world it ain't so.
Happiness is no longer something naturally produced, it's being drainned, it's a bit like money, it's not made it's taken from others , more money means more power and with that power more ability to drain more happiness.

Like vampirism, we are afflicted and addicted to this lingering depression that can never be cured (or satiated) it can only be treated.

So take a sip of your dear buddy's happiness, doctor's orders.
