Attention deficit hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder. ADHD children face difficulty in sitting still, paying attention, and controlling impulsive behavior, affecting their home, social, and academic lives.

Symptoms:   

Inattentive behavior

• Easily distracted
• Difficulty in focusing on tasks
• Difficulty in completing tasks

Impulsive behavior

• Struggling in waiting turn
• Interrupts conversations non-stop
• Very impatient behavior

Hyperactive behavior

• Can't sit still
• Moving around or changing positions frequently while sitting

How to diagnose?

There is no specific test to diagnose ADHD however, it needs complete evaluation by a psychologist or pediatrician.

Following steps can be helpful.

1. Physical examination
2. Hearing\vision assessment
3. Medical history
4. Home, School, and family details
5. Behavior observation

Treatment:

Medication and different types of therapies including behavior and cognitive therapy can be helpful. Social skills training and IEP Development is also very effective. With the right treatment children with ADHD are able to manage their symptoms and lead successful lives.
