While you are thinking about boosting your French vocabulary in many different ways, we suggest you take a break for the moment and take a look at the following synonym words you can use instead of the word ‘aussi.’

They are surely familiar, easy to memorize, and use, so let’s take it slow with the following 10 aussi synonyms.

Ainsi Que

Meaning: as well as, along with, together with

This term can be a little more formal than 'aussi' and it can be used as a coordinating conjunction.

Example:

Luc et Guillaume travaillent sur un nouveau projet. - Luc and also Guillaume work on a new project.

Luc, ainsi que Guillaume, travaillent sur un nouveau projet..Luc, along with Guillaume, works on a new project..

Autant Que

Meaning: equally, as much as, just as

'Aussi' can be replaced with 'autant' when you have to compare the equality of two or more things.

Elle est aussi naïve qu’elle est jeune. - She is as naive as she is young.

Elle est autant naïve que jeune. - She is as naive as she is young.

Comme

Meaning: like

Here's another word that can substitute 'aussi' for comparisons and those comparisons that consider equality.

Example:

Vous êtes aussi intelligente que lui! - You are just as intelligent as he is!

Vous êtes intelligente comme lui! - You are intelligent, just like him!

De Même

Meaning: likewise

This word is easy and pleasant to use and because of that, it is ideal for informal and casual conversations. It can replace ‘aussi’ perfectly well in cases when you want to continue that positive energy.

Également

Meaning: just as, equally

The word aussi can be used for comparisons, too.

Également not only can be used for this purpose but also when you have to compare something the formal way.

Example:

Les lois de ce pays sont également injustes et punitives. - The laws of this country are equally unjust and punitive.

En Plus

Meaning: moreover, in addition, what's more (informal)

As much as this term may sound impossible to use instead of aussi, it actually can and it does a great job.

In situations when you are having a casual conversation and you slowly turn to something else, feel free to use this expression.

Example:

Aussi, l’homme a retrouvé tous les papiers qu’il avait perdu. - Also, the man found all the papers that he had lost.

En plus, l’homme a retrouvé tous les papiers qu’il avait perdu. - What’s more, the man found all the papers that he had lost.

Itou

Meaning: too ( informal word)

When you are among family and friends or you are having a very casual conversation, the word aussi you usually use here can be replaced with 'itou.'

Example:

J’aime traîner avec mes potes, aussi.- .I like hanging around with my buddies, also.

J’aime traîner avec mes potes, itou. - I like hanging around with my buddies, too

Pareillement

Meaning: likewise, similarly

When you talk about similarity between two things, ‘pareillement’ is ideal to use.

If you, for example, compare how similar French and Spanish are, and in the end, you give the conclusion that the two languages are very similar, you will use 'pareillement.'

Final Thoughts

Who would have thought that one tiny and simple word like 'aussi' can be replaced with so many other words and in cases, you would never think of using it?

Well, that's the beauty of the French language and also the beauty of knowing synonyms.

When you think that you've remembered these synonyms so that you can use them, take a lesson or two with French tutors just to make sure you've nailed it.

And who knows, maybe you will accidentally discover more aussi synonyms.
