Reading is one of the most important skills that you can have when you are learning a language. So, what better way to improve your language skills than to learn English with books? On this page, we are going to give you a few tips that should make the process a whole lot easier for you!
We are going to make this a step-by-step process so you know exactly what you should be doing!
Of course, in order to learn English with books, you are going to need to choose a book to start with.
Now, if this is your first time reading a book in English, then you are going to need to start with the basic stuff, although not so basic that you won't really be learning any words.
Most people choose books by reading the first page. If they can understand most of the words, but not all, then this is a brilliant book to start with. It means that you will be reading fluently, but you will also be learning some new vocabulary at the same time. This is exactly what you want.
Remember; you will want to make sure that any book that you choose interests you. Learning a language using books isn't fun if you don't understand what you are reading.
It is fine to read both fiction and non-fiction books. In fact, it may be wise to read both types of books. Your vocab and grammar will improve incredibly quickly like that.
Step two is to actually read the book. Although, this probably isn't going to be like you would normally read a book.
Now, if you have actually put a bit of effort into choosing the correct book, then the bulk of your reading will be fluent. However, every so often, you will come across a word or a piece of grammar you don't understand.
When you do not understand something, grab a notebook, pen, and an English dictionary. Look up the meaning and make a note of it. The next time you do a bit of repetition practice through flashcards, then make sure your new bit of vocab appears in it!
It really is that simple to learn English with books. Some people dress up the whole thing to be way more complicated than it is. It isn't. All you need to do is read and then make a note of anything that you do not understand. It is dead simple. We promise.
When you are done with that book, it is time to choose your next book. While you are free to choose whatever book you want, we believe these tips will help you out:
• Choose a book in a different genre
• Choose a book from a different author
• Choose a book that is slightly more complicated than before
If you do this, then you will learn even more words. This means that you will really be able to take your English learning forward!
