If you want to learn English with cartoons, then you are making a fantastic decision. It can really help with your listening practice. On this page, we want to look at exactly how you can learn English with cartoons.
There are several reasons why you should learn English with cartoons.
Perhaps the main is that they are fun to watch. Well, most of them are. In our opinion, the best way to properly learn a language is to try to make the learning process as fun as it possibly can be. Cartoons are a great way to go about that.
There are also cartoons for just about every single age group. If you are only just starting to learn English, then you will be pleased to know that there are hundreds of English shows aimed at children. A lot of these have a huge focus on improving children's vocabulary, which means that they are a fantastic resource to learn from.
English cartoons should be fairly accessible too. If you have a Netflix account or even a Disney Plus account, then you will no doubt have countless cartoons that you can watch in English!
If you are going to be learning English with cartoons, then we suggest that you take a very active role in your listening. This means making countless notes on what you are listening to.
Our suggestion is that you have all subtitles turned off when you are learning English with cartoons. Yes. It does make things a little bit harder but, as you will probably realize when you have learned the language properly, most of the subtitles will be wrong. This means that if you read them while you are listening, they aren't really going to be matching up to what you are hearing.
Whenever you watch the cartoon, have a notebook by your side. There will be a lot of words that you do not understand. Write them down. You can pause the cartoon and look them up if you want to. We prefer to wait until the very end so we do not interrupt the flow of the listening.
After a while, you will start to realize that you understand more and more words in a cartoon without having to look them up. When you get to the point where there are barely any words that you do not understand, then you can 'upgrade' to the next level of cartoon and watch that. Keep repeating this process.
Make sure that you only watch maybe 20-30 minutes of cartoons per day. You don't want to get tired. If you do, then you wouldn't really be able to retain that many words.
So, there you have it. That is all you need to do to learn English with cartoons. Yes. We have made the process seem simple, but it is going to require a lot of effort on your part. However, we promise you that if you stay motivated, you will be picking up English quite quickly!
