You all know what a Polyglot is, right? It is a person that is able to speak multiple languages beyond their mother tongue. So, we figured that we would put together a guide to some of the biggest polyglot problems. You know the ones that you may have to face if you decide to learn multiple languages at once!

Lack of time

This is probably one of the biggest polyglot problems. You have to remember that learning a language takes a lot of time. If you are learning multiple languages at once, it is going to take even more time. Remember, at the minimum, you should be learning one language for around an hour a day. If you are learning 2? That is 2-hours, etc. Most people will probably learn a lot more each day.

Basically, one of the biggest polyglot problems is that you need to have so much time that it is ridiculous. Because you are splitting your time up, it actually becomes a lot harder to learn a language too. So, you can expect to become fluent in languages far less quickly.

You will mess up your vocabulary

This is especially true if you are learning a language that is pretty close to one another you know on a vocabulary and grammatical level. There will be times where you mess up the words that come out. So, you may think that a German word is a Swedish word, for instance. Thankfully, as you become more advanced in a language, this will become less and less of a problem.

Pronunciation

Again, a major problem that you are going to be dealing with as you really try to nail learning a language. Each language will have different sounds, etc. that you will need to learn. There are many people that are learning multiple languages that will end up messing up the sounds between the languages. Again, this often happens in closely linked languages e.g. Swedish and Norwegian. While there is a bit of overlap with the words, they are also pronounced in different ways.

Motivation

Some of your languages are going to progress a little bit faster than others when you are a polyglot. This means that you may spend a lot more time focusing on one language because you really love that motivation. The problem is that this means that you will be leaving all of those other languages behind, making you worse at them.

The constant need to learn new languages

Once you have been bitten by the polyglot bug, it is not uncommon for people to constantly want to add new languages to their repertoire. The problem is that if you do this, you will never master one language. You will just know little bits of languages, none of which that you can speak fluently.

As you can see, there are quite a few polyglot problems. We do recommend that you learn one language at a time. As you get better with that language, you can talk to our JustLearn.com tutors about extending what you know.
