We all are a little anxious about what’s going on in the world. But don’t worry. We are not going to talk about the COVID-19.
We are going to talk about something much more interesting and inspiring: productive things to do when bored at home.
We’ve all asked ourselves what we can do in isolation to make our time more productive.
In the beginning, you’ve certainly slept a lot, perhaps too much.
You’ve eaten all day and watched TV.
However, that isn’t something that you want to do while you’re at home, right?
There are plenty of things you can do in isolation that can make you feel better and your days more interesting.
In the following lines, we suggest ten things you can do at home, so don’t procrastinate anymore, but try them out right now.
You can try every one of them since the majority of these suggestions aren’t demanding at all.
If you find it hard to organize your time, perhaps make a weekly plan for each activity.
Almost every person in the world speaks or learns one additional language.
Reasons for learning languages are numerous: from career ambition to passion for foreign languages and traveling.
Memory improvement, mind sharpening, cognitive activity improvement, or mind power boost, are just some of the benefits of learning a new language.
If not now, then when?
If not now when you are stuck at home day and night, then when will you start learning that language you love so much or need for your career?
If you want to learn a language in a fun and interesting way, there are tons of methods and ideas. Some of them are:
However, talking to an actual person is the best practice you can get.
That’s why you should consider learning a language with native speakers.
Learning a language can be fun and more effective if you have a good tutor.

It’s not just a phrase that ‘Books can be our best friends.’
Moreover, it isn’t true that more and more people simply don’t like to read. They do; they just don’t have enough free time in this modern world.
Well, now is a perfect time.
You don’t need to rush anywhere, you aren’t tired, and you have all the time in the world to take that book that you’ve been planning to read.
For starters, try reading around 20 minutes a day. Very quickly you will not notice, 20 minutes will become 30, then 40, etc.
If you don’t have an idea what to read, then try following other people’s recommendations.
There are plenty of book lists and recommendations that can guide you.
You can take a glimpse at the popular website Goodreads.
There, you can get some ideas and choose the book that speaks to you the most.
It is well-known that meditation has many benefits such as stress relief, anxiety reduction, generating kindness, a more positive outlook on life and so on.
If you still haven’t tried it, then start right away.
In the beginning, make your meditation schedule, e.g., three or four times a week for about an hour.
Over time, you will learn when it’s the best time to meditate, or how many times a week.
How to meditate properly?
First, sit down or lie comfortably.
Close your eyes.
Then relax and breathe naturally.
Focus on breathing and your body movements with every inhalation and exhalation.
You can start meditating by downloading some apps like Headspace, which is considered one of the best meditating apps, or you can find guided meditation videos on YouTube such as e.g., Meditation for Anxiety, Worry, and Urgency or Calming Warm Light: Spirit Healing Rainfall.
Being at home all day and night also means that you can’t go to the gym.
There’s nothing to worry about because you can stay fit and healthy by doing exercises at home.
Working out at home is easy, no special equipment is required, only your will power.
Exercising releases endorphins, so after only 30 minutes of work out, you will feel positivity running through your veins.
If you don’t have an exercising pattern, find some videos on YouTube.
With more than 2 million views, the Calistenicmovement channel on YouTube has become very popular in these days and weeks.
30 minutes workout is something we suggest you try out. Check it out!
In the beginning, try working out three times a week, which is weekly only an hour and a half.
Very soon you will see the positive results.
If you are among those minimalists as Marie Kondo, then you don’t need to read the next several lines.
However, as we suppose that many of us aren’t, then you can do one more productive thing while trapped inside: cleaning and organizing the things you haven’t looked or used for months and years.
It is the perfect timing to do spring cleaning and to organize your books, little things, souvenirs, clothes, etc.
Those things that you haven’t used for at least six months, you surely won’t use at all.
So, take a good look, organize, and pass forward to someone else.
The result: your house is clean, but your mental health as well.
Along with cleaning your house, somehow it looks completely logical to learn how to cook, don’t you think so?
Cooking has become the most popular thing to do these days.
No matter whether you already know how to prepare some of the basic meals, or you don’t cook at all, this is an ideal opportunity to change that.
Moreover, this the perfect time to be creative while cooking.
You have to use only the ingredients that you have at that particular moment, so search for a delicious recipe.
Ask your mother or grandmother for some family recipe with a secret ingredient and make it. Save that legacy.
You have a bunch of options.
Find websites with recipes and ideas such as All Recipes, or search for some video recipes such as Tasty channel on YouTube.
Who knows, maybe in this isolation you find out that deep inside there is another Gordon Ramsey.
And don’t forget to send us some of your delicious meals.
As much as this situation, on one hand, looks amusing, and on the other hand terrifying, when all this comes to an end, we all go back to our old, normal lives with a crazy schedule and little free time.
This is why one of the most productive things to do when bored is to plan ahead.
So, for example, after your language classes, get some cup of tea or coffee, sit down on your favorite spot on the sofa, relax a bit and try to visualize what you want your life to look like from now on.
See if you are satisfied with your current life or some aspects of it.
If you are, then plan in advance how to make it better.
If you, however, think that some things aren’t as you’ve imagined, then this is an ideal situation to plan your life.
For example, if you started learning a new language in isolation, don’t stop when all this ends.
Continue learning and give your best to master it.
Think which little things can make you happy, and try to improve your lifestyle.
Due to the current situation worldwide, all the museums and galleries are closed.
However, many of them granted us with an online access, so we can visit them virtually. This way, you can still get some piece of art and history, and still, learn something valuable.
Among the first one, Louvre Musem allows you to visit their exhibitions online including famous Egyptian antique collection.
National Gallery of Victoria, or popular NGV, also offers the possibility to see their exhibitions online.
Moreover, NGV opened GV for kids, so give your little ones something that might grab their attention.
Even if you aren’t such a fan of Museums and Galleries, we assure you that you will remain speechless. Anyway, don’t miss out on these great opportunities.
No matter if you have a balcony or just a little terrace, you can plant some herbs such as parcel, rosemary, thyme, oregano, or basil. If your space in the balcony is limited, keep it versatile and use little watering pots for a start.
It is scientifically proved that gardening helps you let go of stress, anxiety and everything negative that can hold you back from being calm and enjoying life.
For those who have big (or tiny) backyards, gardening is the way to do something for the environment.
They can plant edible vegetables and fruits, not just herbs.
So, if you still haven’t, then clean your backyard right now, paint the fence, and plant some fruit, flowers, and herbs.
You have to admit that these days, it is essential to remain calm and think positively.
And what can be more positive and healthy than giving another living being chance to be in this world?
Some would say that this isn’t such a productive thing to do.
Well, they are wrong.
Spending time with your family is the most productive thing you can do at this moment.
Of course, the members of the family that are isolating with you at this moment.
Maintaining and nurturing family relationships is the base of all productivity.
We all work because of our families.
We are all happy when members of our families are happy.
And we always want to spend time with our loved ones as much as possible.
For people with kids, we suggest maintaining the routine you’ve had before isolation.
As you’ve already known, a routine is essential for kids.
So, keep preparing desks for your kids’ online school(s), make meals, work from home (if you need to) and so on.
Add some new routines with your kids such as puzzles, coloring and drawing together, or perhaps making postcards and small paper toys.
If you have older parents or relatives, take care of them.
Don’t visit them and kiss and hug them, but call every day.
Talk to them, comfort them if needed and show them you care, as you do.
Ask if they need any additional help with buying groceries or going to a pharmacy to pick up medicines.
The situation we are currently in is not perfect, but you can try to make the best out of it.
Do something for yourself, your gain, future career, physical and mental health, and more importantly, your family.
It’s essential to stay well and safe, so don’t stress if you are not productive.
If you decide to embrace the situation and learn a new language, you can find more than 80 available languages on Justlearn.
Seize the day at home and book your new language tutor
Being productive at home brings a lot of benefits.
Everything depends on you and your goals. But don't forget that it should be a pleasure for you.
If you are busy enough during the isolation, you must already be productive. Don't be too hard on yourself.
It mostly depends on your goals.
If you do something apart from lying on the sofa, you will thank yourself later.
