How difficult is to learn German?
This is dependent on what languages you currently speak. If you speak English natively or near-fluently, then the US Foreign Service Institute's School of Language Studies is helpful. The institute has created timelines for its students (diplomats and civil servants) to use as a guide to work out how long it will likely take for them to learn a new language. There are four categories of language difficulties, ranging from Class I (24-30 weeks) through to Class IV (88 weeks) for languages such as Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese, Japanese etc. German is a Class II language, meaning it should take about 36 weeks. Obviously this is a general guide and you may find it more difficult or easier than this.
