Giuseppina
Italy
Italian
Hello everyone, My name is Giuseppina (but you can call me Josephina), I'm 28, and I'm an Italian native speaker. I was born and raised in Italy, and I love drawing, reading, discovering new places, and experiencing different cultures. I studied at the Università per stranieri di Siena (Italy), and I have a Bachelor's degree in Linguistic Mediation and a Master's degree in Didactics of Italian as a foreign language. I've been studying English and Spanish for many years, so I know what it means to learn a new language. I taught Italian as a trainee in Siena, and my teaching philosophy is simple. I love using everyday situations to teach common and useful expressions, including vocabulary and grammar. I'm very patient and empathetic, and I'm always happy to help, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. My schedule is pretty flexible, so let me know what time is best for you. Hope to see you in my lessons!

Luca

Italian
I'm from Sicily, a beautiful region of the south of Italy. In the last five years, I have lived in England, Spain, Brazil and for a short time in Senegal. I have a degree in International Development and cooperation at the University of Bologna. I learnt the languages that I speak mainly thanks to the experiences in the countries where I lived. Thanks to these experiences, I realized that one of the best methods to learn a language is practising communication. So in our lesson, we can talk about any topic of your interest, but in general, we can create the lesson notes that best suits your needs. We can do grammar, reading to improve your pronunciation, writing or anything else you that could be useful for you. I'll try to cater my lesson to each individual student so they are as interesting as possible because, how I could realize from my experience, is very important to be motivated to learn a language, like everything else. Another thing that I'll do is to teach you to be confident and not afraid to make mistake because it's so important for learning a language faster.

Irene
Italy
Italian
Hello everyone, My name is Irene, and I am a native Italian speaker. I was born in the beautiful island of Sicily, and I have been living in the UK for ten years. I studied at Palermo University, where I took a Bachelor Degree in Foreign Languages, specializing in teaching Italian as a second language. I speak fluent English, good Spanish, and I am brushing up on my Russian. I have experience as a private tutor helping students of any age and background build up more confidence in Italian as well as provide cultural insights which I believe are essential to comprehend the rudiments and structures of a language. I can help you with different aspects of the Italian language, from basic grammar to complex sentence construction. I will show you how to confidently manage real-life situations, from ordering food at a restaurant or general conversation to more professional settings like attending job interviews. I will support you with reading and writing if you want to. My motto is don’t be afraid of failure, making mistakes is the only way to learn, and I am here to make the process fun and engaging. In my first lesson, I start by getting to know my student and discussing their motivation and goals. Based on their language level, I will plan the lessons taking into account their hobbies and interests. I am always happy to discuss any topic you want, and I will make sure I consider the grammar and communicative aspects too. I have a flexible approach, depending on your level and preferences I can use a mix of images, audio-visual material, games, questionnaires, newspaper articles, songs, fairy tales, dictation exercises and references to online books. As a foreigner myself, I understand the difficulties in approaching a new language, the differences between studying it at school and being effectively able to hold a conversation with a native speaker. These are why I work to make my students enjoy a stress-free class, but at the same time, give them the right input to achieve their learning targets. If there is a particular subject you would like to discuss, or you have any questions, book a lesson to start your Italian journey.

Luisa

Italian
Ciao a tutti, it’s Luisa! About me: I’m 28 years old and I’m Italian. I have a Master Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures and I’ve been teaching Italian, English and Spanish as a side job since I graduated, and it is now my main job! I simply love to be able to work with my biggest passion and spread the love for my native language and country, while learning so much of the world from each one of my students. I currently live in a small town in the north of Italy, but thanks to many experiences abroad and my previous job, (I was an adventure Travel Guide), I’ve been so lucky to live and travel in several places around the world: Spain, Portugal, Latin-America and Australia. Thanks to this I can fluently speak English, Spanish and Portuguese. In the last years I started studying Polish and I can now say I’m reaching a good level and I love being in the process of learning a new language again! My hobbies and interests are traveling, languages, knitting, photography and video-making, outdoor sports and reading. Me as a Teacher: Being a teacher to me means to transmit my passion and enthusiasm for foreign languages, for traveling and for life in general. Also, I feel like I always learn so much from students, it goes both ways! My approach to teaching is communicative, natural and informal; to me, real communication and interaction is not only the objective in learning, but also the means through which it takes place. Of course I have a preferred teaching method which focuses a lot on vocabulary building and conversation, but I also believe that every student is very different and has different goals/personalities, so I’m very flexible and open to evaluate together which is the best way for yo to learn a language according to your needs and interests, which will always go first. I’m happy to provide extra articles, books, podcasts, videos, songs, etc that will help you in the process. I really believe that every single language you speak will always open a thousands doors for you. Can you imagine how many doors are waiting for you to be opened? I can’t wait to meet you!!

What is the most important qualification that you should look out for in choosing a tutor?
Above all else, it's important for you and your tutor to be able to communicate in a common language. It may not be English because the tutor might be fluent in your native tongue, too. But if the tutor you chose is a native speaker of the language you want to learn and isn't fluent with your native language and you know how to speak in English, then make sure he can speak English, too.
What should you expect in learning a language?
Learning a new language takes time, lets you put in a bit more effort and resources to make it work. If you have a specific timeframe that you're following, then you'll need more of the three aspects to learn it. You should also expect that if it's just a bit too difficult for you, then you have to be open to your tutor about your difficulties so that what you've invested on will not go to waste. In that way, your tutor will be able to make adjustments and will help you achieve your goal.
How can you be more effective in learning a language?
Always be attentive in your lessons and when you're done with them, make sure that you are able to practice and apply what you learned. Your tutor will give you tips on how to practice on your own and might give you homework. If the tutor doesn't, then you can ask for it so you can keep practicing off schedule. You always have to help yourself while you're on your own so that when you're already out there and speaking with the locals, it's not that hard to pick up on what you learned anymore.
What factors should you consider in learning a language online?
Learning a language online needs you to invest in a good internet connection, if you don't have any yet, because it's the only way to work with a tutor. You also have to invest your time and if time is difficult to spare, you might as well choose a platform that allows you to choose your own schedule. You also need space, like a quiet room, where you can speak with the tutor and be able to focus on your lessons.
How can you help your language tutor be effective in teaching you?
Always be attentive with what your tutor is teaching you. It's the only way for you to understand and learn easily. Make sure that you follow the schedule that you agreed on or what you choose for yourself if that's how it works. You also have to participate in the activities that your tutor has planned for you because these have been tailored fit with the requirements that you have set. If you are asked to practice during the days when you don't have lessons, you have to religiously do so.
What kind of language tutor should you choose?
It really depends on your learning style. If you think you can learn better if the person is more of someone who teaches professionally then you can find someone who teaches that way. If you're the type who learns while just talking to the teacher, then you can opt for someone who's friendly, enthusiastic and fun but still focusing on the lesson at hand. Always read a tutor's personal introduction so you have a bit of an idea who they are and how they teach.
What's the advantage of hiring a tutor?
It's an advantage to hire a tutor because lessons will be customized for you and you'll be guided in learning them to make it more effective for you. You can easily interact with them and ask them to elaborate if something's not really that clear to you. They will also be able to give you feedback on your progress with your lessons and how far along you are in achieving your goals in learning the language.
How can learning a language benefit me other than being able to communicate with it?
Studies have proved that learning languages can help you with other mental processes as it sharpens your thinking skills. There's significant improvement in your memory, enhances your concentration, it helps you be able to multitask with ease and improves your listening comprehension skills. It also helps you solve problems easily because it enables you to critically be able to think to come up with effective solutions.
What should be your mindset so you can learn a new language easily?
If you already have a particular language in mind because you have goals to achieve, prepare yourself to learn it and be mentally ready to take risks. There will be times that you will struggle but it should always challenge you to work harder and do better. You have to be optimistic and determined that no matter how many obstacles you have, you're still willing to make it happen and be fluent in the language you want to learn.
How important is motivation in learning a language?
Before you decide to learn a new language, you have to be able to answer the question, "Why do you really want to learn?" It could be because you'll get a promotion at work, or for a new relationship, or because you want to get better grades in school and etc. There are many reasons why you want to push yourself to learn. Your reasons why you have to learn affects the level of motivation that you exhibit in learning and it also shows in the progress that you achieve.
