About me
My name is Lindsay, and I am an English Teacher with a background in Performing Arts and Literature. I have over 20 years of experience working in Health Care and Higher Education Administration, and I have dedicated my entire life towards the study of the English Language. My goal is to connect with advanced English Language students who need more guidance and a personally tailored curriculum than a group academy class can provide. I am a TEFL Certified English Teacher with over 15 years of teaching public performance in Speech and Drama, and over 2 years of teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults, Teens and Adolescents. I make tailored curriculum for advanced level students, and this is my area of expertise. I have lots of experience teaching high-level English students in specialist subjects: Academic, Scientific & Medical Vocabulary, Business English & Literature and History in English. I can teach students at ANY level from absolute beginner to nearly a native level online, but I am very experienced in teaching high-level students and helping prepare them for University Admission Interviews, Certification Exams, Job Interviews, Presentations and generally helping with their professional and personal development goals. Simply put, I teach adults the English they want to learn for the reasons they want to learn it. I design each class for the student attending it based on their unique goals and needs. In the past two years, I have taught over 750 private students and had over 100 high-level students that I helped with extra coaching and guidance. I would like to continue teaching as a freelancer. It has been really gratifying to help these students ace job interviews, get into colleges, gain promotions and potentially increase their career opportunities and income by improving their English Skills, Cultural Knowledge and Vocabulary. Most recently, I helped a graduate student get her dream job lined up right after graduation, through extensive preparation and mock interview practice. She had three rounds of interviews with a total of 12 people, and she told me she was able to overcome her fears about interviews and had a successful session because of the preparation that we did together. This is why I do what I do to help people open doors of opportunity for themselves. My #1 skill is teaching College Level vocabulary. There are very few people apart from lexicographers, the people who compile dictionaries, that have a larger vocabulary than me in English. That's not bragging - I know over 75,000 words in English! You only need about 30K words of English to be a successful journalist in an English speaking country, for a point of reference. I have been studying the origins of English words in depth since I was six years old. I spent my pocket money on vintage dictionaries as a child and teen. I spent all of the University in the library reading reference books. I can teach my students how to define the meaning of new words they encounter in English by learning a few root words from Latin, Greek, Old French Old German and all the other many branches of the Engish language tree. I will save that level of "nerdery" for the interested students only! For the rest, I will unlock the secrets to pronunciation and spelling in English first! Of course, I am here to answer the students' questions first and foremost, and the students who will benefit the most from working with me are the driven and motivated students who are out there learning furiously on their own who need me for guidance, content and curriculum and to help them resolve those nagging context and definition questions that come up in English all the time. I'm here for the students who have been fluent for YEARS but who aspire to a level of verbal dexterity that only 1:1 coaching from a person with my skills can provide. I'm not only here to teach students grammar, vocabulary and expressions...I'm here to provide the general knowledge and cultural context to help students navigate the English Speaking World and the Business World. I'm here to teach students how to be clever, amusing, fascinating and erudite in English. I'm here to teach, history, art, and culture and any language skills to make them naturally conversant about the subject the student is interested in. I'm here to help students learn everything someone who went to University in the USA, Canada, Australia or the UK might know. I'm here to help you get on par with your colleagues both present and future so you never feel sidelined or left out of the inside jokes and references or the cultural context needed to understand them. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of world history, arts and science, and I am willing to share it with any student who is willing to put in the effort. My students and clients are everything to me; I'm here for them. I've been helping native English speakers to become better wordsmiths, writers and creatives for years, so now I'm here to help the advanced level English students who speak English as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th language to achieve all their personal goals. How do I cancel a lesson?
You can cancel a lesson up to 12 hours ahead of booked time.
Is the lesson online?
We use ZOOM for classes. You can enter the class 5 minutes ahead of booked time. Go to "Dashboard". Click on "View" and click on "Join". You will enter the classroom on ZOOM.
