Hello, I'm Camila, and I'm from Brazil. I currently live and work in England as a scientist. I left my country some years ago to study in Germany, where I got my PhD degree in Biotechnology/Biochemistry. After this amazing experience, I moved to Australia to follow my partner and luckily found a position there. In Brisbane, I had a full-time position (as a researcher) but used to spend my Saturday mornings teaching German to children and youths as part of voluntary work. The teaching experience was great, and I would like to continue on this path. I'm passionate about language and want to spend some of my time teaching my native language - Portuguese.
My name is Rusty, and I'm from Brazil. I'm passionate about technology, language learning, travelling, music and learning about new cultures. My first experience teaching Portuguese was through language exchange partners when I decided to learn English by myself. In 2015, I decided to create a channel where I've been teaching Portuguese as a second language. I believe that a person can learn a language on their own, as long as they have the right motivation and consistency. Even so, having a tutor who knows about your interests and weaknesses can help you make progress much faster. I think that learning a language should be fun. When teaching, I like to understand the student's profile to create more interesting lessons to keep them engaged and motivated. If you're interested in learning with me, you can schedule lessons here on Justlearn.
Hi, my name is Belkis, I'm Brazilian, and I currently live in São Paulo. I am an online Portuguese teacher, but I've worked for many years as a commercial manager in a large company in Brazil. I love to make new friends and learn about new cultures and new languages. Today, what I like to do the most is to be able to help foreigners learn a little more of the Brazilian-Portuguese language and be engaged in our culture. I love being in touch with nature, going to the beach, surfing, doing outdoor exercises and meditating. I enjoy talking about spirituality, meditation, politics, sports and deep things about life! I have been helping foreigners with the Portuguese language for over two years now. I think that the best way to learn a new language is to talk with native speakers and to learn informally within the cultural context. My style of teaching is conversational, and I can help my students improve their pronunciation, listening skills and fluency. Also, I can teach grammar, and I can provide a lot of Portuguese materials to help your improvement. I firmly believe that when a student learns engagingly and enjoyably, learning happens naturally. We can talk about anything you want, and I will make sure that you will be able to connect with me so you can have meaningful learning. If you want to try learning a new language in a fun and an engaging way, we can work things out.
Hi there, my name is Catarina, I live in Portugal, and I am Portuguese. I am a university student at Porto Accounting and Administration Institute. I am currently in my second year, and I am studying to be a translator. I'm learning English, Russian and German, so I know how a language should be taught and the proper methods to make learning fun and effective. Besides, I love to help people achieve their goals, and I think the best way I can do that is to teach what I know best - my native language.
Oi! I am Natalia, a native Portuguese speaker and an Economics graduate student living in Sao Paulo. I love travelling around the world, getting to know new places and their cultures, trying different types of food and having new challenges. I enjoy reading, cooking, going on hikes, hanging out with my family and friends and spoiling my doggy. My goal is to help you gain the confidence to use Portuguese in daily conversations and to make you feel confident enough to reach your full potential within yourself. Ready! Come with me!
I will guide you through introductory conversational Portuguese. Using proven teaching methods, I will help you to build your vocabulary for use in daily life. I will equip you with essential expressions, greetings, idioms, pronouns, prepositions, and verbs so that as our classes progress your confidence to speak Portuguese will grow. If complicated grammar points are not your cup of tea, don't worry! We can start by adopting a conversational approach to get you speaking Portuguese as quickly as possible. Classes will focus on your language needs and your personal learning goals tailored to your unique personal circumstances. I used to teach kids in Brazil, so I have the experience with younger pupils and have the experience of developing courses that meet their needs. I use instructional material in a variety of interactive formats such as music, videos, and games to make lessons fun and engaging.... Anything to help my students, after all learning Portuguese doesn't need to be boring, right? I am looking forward to meeting you. Please, have a look at my video introduction.
My name is Felipe, and I am Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro and currently living in Belém do Pará, Amazon region of Brasil. Teaching Brazilian Portuguese to whoever is one of my passions. I tailor my methodology for teaching based on your learning objectives and I create our lessons according to it. My favourite style is to teach Brazilian Portuguese interacting with Brazilian culture. Portuguese is my first language, and I am also fluent in Spanish and English. I am a professional geographer and anthropologist. I am currently a doctoral candidate researching indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon at Universidade Federal do Pará. If you are interested in learning how to speak Brazilian Portuguese and are curious about the cultural aspects too, then we already synced! My main goal is that you become able to speak Portuguese with confidence. To achieve this, we will work on the one hand vocabulary and on the other grammar. It will be the intertwining between the knowledge of words and the grammatical structure of the language that will enable you to express yourself and understand Portuguese. We will not need to go into grammatical terminology for us to work on the particulars of grammar, unless you want it. My methodology: * I provide audiovisual and written material adapted to the profile and objective of the students * Work the language within the Brazilian cultural context. * Work with Brazilian music and texts. * Work on grammar and vocabulary in lessons * If there is interest, I give homework to improve the content studied in the lessons. What is the most important qualification that you should look out for in choosing a tutor?
Above all else, it's important for you and your tutor to be able to communicate in a common language. It may not be English because the tutor might be fluent in your native tongue, too. But if the tutor you chose is a native speaker of the language you want to learn and isn't fluent with your native language and you know how to speak in English, then make sure he can speak English, too.
What should you expect in learning a language?
Learning a new language takes time, lets you put in a bit more effort and resources to make it work. If you have a specific timeframe that you're following, then you'll need more of the three aspects to learn it. You should also expect that if it's just a bit too difficult for you, then you have to be open to your tutor about your difficulties so that what you've invested on will not go to waste. In that way, your tutor will be able to make adjustments and will help you achieve your goal.
How can you be more effective in learning a language?
Always be attentive in your lessons and when you're done with them, make sure that you are able to practice and apply what you learned. Your tutor will give you tips on how to practice on your own and might give you homework. If the tutor doesn't, then you can ask for it so you can keep practicing off schedule. You always have to help yourself while you're on your own so that when you're already out there and speaking with the locals, it's not that hard to pick up on what you learned anymore.
What factors should you consider in learning a language online?
Learning a language online needs you to invest in a good internet connection, if you don't have any yet, because it's the only way to work with a tutor. You also have to invest your time and if time is difficult to spare, you might as well choose a platform that allows you to choose your own schedule. You also need space, like a quiet room, where you can speak with the tutor and be able to focus on your lessons.
How can you help your language tutor be effective in teaching you?
Always be attentive with what your tutor is teaching you. It's the only way for you to understand and learn easily. Make sure that you follow the schedule that you agreed on or what you choose for yourself if that's how it works. You also have to participate in the activities that your tutor has planned for you because these have been tailored fit with the requirements that you have set. If you are asked to practice during the days when you don't have lessons, you have to religiously do so.
What kind of language tutor should you choose?
It really depends on your learning style. If you think you can learn better if the person is more of someone who teaches professionally then you can find someone who teaches that way. If you're the type who learns while just talking to the teacher, then you can opt for someone who's friendly, enthusiastic and fun but still focusing on the lesson at hand. Always read a tutor's personal introduction so you have a bit of an idea who they are and how they teach.
What's the advantage of hiring a tutor?
It's an advantage to hire a tutor because lessons will be customized for you and you'll be guided in learning them to make it more effective for you. You can easily interact with them and ask them to elaborate if something's not really that clear to you. They will also be able to give you feedback on your progress with your lessons and how far along you are in achieving your goals in learning the language.
How can learning a language benefit me other than being able to communicate with it?
Studies have proved that learning languages can help you with other mental processes as it sharpens your thinking skills. There's significant improvement in your memory, enhances your concentration, it helps you be able to multitask with ease and improves your listening comprehension skills. It also helps you solve problems easily because it enables you to critically be able to think to come up with effective solutions.
What should be your mindset so you can learn a new language easily?
If you already have a particular language in mind because you have goals to achieve, prepare yourself to learn it and be mentally ready to take risks. There will be times that you will struggle but it should always challenge you to work harder and do better. You have to be optimistic and determined that no matter how many obstacles you have, you're still willing to make it happen and be fluent in the language you want to learn.
