About me
Hi, I am Rubin from Albania. I have studied English Language and Literature in Bosphorus University, Istanbul. I also studied my high school in Turkey, as a boarding student. That experience has enabled me to acquire excellent fluency and accent as well as learn the language by the book, so to speak (in contrast to English which I have mostly learned through readings). For about 12 years I have been working as a translator of books from and to Albanian, Turkish and English. During my years in Turkey I have also become very familiar with Turkish culture, society and history and I have maintained and developed that familiarity throughout all my years away from that country to which I am also connected through personal relations. My main occupation is translation and I haven't ventured into teaching so far. However the idea of teaching Turkish has always intrigued me, not the least as a way of reliving my own experience of learning that language, which has been one of the best in learning anything. So my teaching concept is also largely influenced by my own experience. In my teaching I will focus on 1) grammar and 2) reading, with texts carefully chosen not only for content as is relevant to the study, but also for their literary value and style, such as excerpts from literature and poetry. This may sound a little too ambitious to many a beginner, but it shouldn't. For Turkish grammar is very easy and captivating at the beginner level. The difficulty starts with syntax, for which nothing helps better than reading, so it will be pursued that way in parallel with the grammar. As for conversational skills, I won't pursue a certain method or book, but will rather take a casual and liberal approach to it, also depending on the specifical needs of learners.About me
