Sergio
Spain
Spanish
Hello everyone, My name is Sergio, a Spanish private teacher from Barcelona. My mother tongues are Spanish and Catalan, but I have a proficient English level. I am a graduate in Politics at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona and hold a Master in Fine Arts at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York. As a Spanish graduate, I have C1 in both Spanish and Catalan. I also have Cambridge Proficiency and TOEFL certifications in English and DELF B1 in French. Since a very young age, I have always loved portraying other characters and realities. That is why I decided to be an actor, I guess. As an actor, I like to mimic others and try to understand their cultures and languages as much as possible. During my stay in New York 6 years ago, I decided to start teaching Spanish, which has become my source of income ever since. As a kid, my parents sent me abroad to learn English: summer camps in Seattle, Dunstable, Ohio, and language academies of the British Council itinerary. I learned a lot, but never have I learned English the way my former Voice and Speech teacher from Stella Adler, Joe Goscinski, taught me. He was a master of languages, arriving at an unbelievable level of comprehension in many languages. I needed to speak like an American to compete with them in auditions, and that triggered my passion to learn English. I had to pay tuition and rent, so I decided to apply the same method to others by tutoring Spanish private classes in cafes, shops etc. Joe told me something back at Stella that stuck within me: "The best language teacher is not one who is native, but one who can understand the mindset of the language the student is learning and the language the students have as their mother tongue." From him, I learned things I had never learnt in the past 22 years of life. For instance, that American English has 14 vowels, instead of the Spanish 5 vowels. That Ts and Ds are different in both languages because in Spanish they are non-aspirated dental consonants, while in English they are aspirated alveolar consonants. These are very subtle differences, but it tells the difference. I also learned that there are front, back, close and open vowels. I intend to make you as proficient in Spanish as I am in English thanks to the training I received back in New York and the tools and methods I've learned in these past years. But not only do I teach pronunciation, but I also teach Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading and Listening Comprehensions, and Writing and Oral Expressions. Despite my hatred for Spanish grammar back at school, I found my very own way of teaching it, how I see it, not how I was taught. I guess when someone likes what they do, it suddenly becomes easier, and way more fun! I have experience teaching different ages and needs, and I adapt classes to each of my students depending on their objectives. I normally create a Google Drive where the student and I can keep track of our classes and paste the theory and exercises we go seeing. I'll post a link to a book and a website I use for Grammar. And from Madrid, I do classes via Zoom or Skype with students all over the world. Do you want to learn Spanish with a thorough understanding and start using it as a native? Don't hesitate on contacting me to try a free trial class! I'm looking forward to teaching you. Thanks! Sergio

Spanish
¡Buen día para todos! I am Lucas. I majored in Audiovisuals and Communications at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and also have a Masters Degree in Social Studies from Universidad del Rosario. I am also a C1 English speaker, according to MET; and DELE certified in Spanish teaching. As a language and linguistics teacher, my approach involves interaction and communication lab, where we'll treat contents with dynamics and concept. This method ensures that students improve in their expressions as the lessons progress. I expose and unravel the core language topics with clarity, practicality and a sense of organization that looks for integrating subjects using intuition, logics and conversation as resources. I need to be listening to you and interacting constantly. I love humanities and the arts, of course. I'd say I'm a music and literature lover. In the same way, I love running and working out since it gives me a sensation of catharsis. I expect to see you in session and have you start using all your knowledge towards fluency and language expression.

Montserrat

Spanish
¡Hola! Hello! I am Montserrat from Spain, but I’ve been teaching Spanish as a foreign language in London for the last 5 years at high school and I know the latest strategies in teaching as you will see in my introduction. I teach part-time at an outstanding private high school in London and in my Free time I teach online since one year ago. I am a qualified teacher at Canterbury Christchurch University in the UK with a Certificate in Education and Training (CTLLS) with more than 400 teaching hours and teaching observations. I graduated recently as an ELE teacher of Spanish (Español como Lengua extranjera) by the Institute Cervantes and for the levels A1 up to B2. I am a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language from Cambridge University, the CELTA qualification with 9 teaching observations in the classroom, and two observations teaching online ESOL students from West Thames College. Also, I achieved the Award in Education and Training from City & Guilds of London Institute at Uxbridge college with some teaching practice observations too. I love languages and traveling. I studied the French language at the French Lycée in Madrid for three years and lived in ST Marteen for a year teaching a one-year-old child Spanish Language. I am passionate about art and drama. At the beginning of my teaching career, I volunteered in a Primary international language school in the role of teacher of Drama in English as a Foreign language. I wanted to create something original with my students that I could adapt to their ideas, thus I wrote a theatre presentation which I called Dreams can fly. Currently, I am working on a bilingual book for adults and children in both English and Spanish languages. With all the benefits from this book, I want to help a charity to sustain the education of the children in Cape Verde. My teaching online: -SPANISH LESSONS FROM BEGINNERS UP TO ADVANCE LEARNERS WITH A FOCUS ON CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS. A1-C1 -BEGINNERS up to intermediate learn all language skills with THEMES FOR REAL-LIFE conversational skills. -ADVANCE students practice speaking skills with interesting lessons focus on themes of relevance. I have a specialism in speaking skills. My students at GCSE (B1-B2) and A-level (C1-C2) have achieved excellent grades. I have developed strong speaking skills during this time preparing students for examinations in GCSE and A levels. I can anticipate the student's needs and how to implement new strategies to improve their skills in the target language. Achievement and Teaching During my time at Gumley House Convent School and during the completion of my teaching training I have acquired experience in teaching large groups of students up to twenty-five. The language department has always placed trust and confidence in my responsibilities in teaching students. In one observation my mentor commented on my capacity to build good relationships with the students and my wittiness in the classroom. In the final observation, my tutor commented with the heads of the languages department how impressive my lesson was and the high levels of engagement and motivation that students show in the lesson. I have always been constant in my work at schools, producing resources and in constant communication with teachers and Heads of subjects to discuss pupil progression and explore different assessment strategies that needed to be implemented to support the individual pupil. I have assessed, tracked, and monitored students’ progression closely. I have built strong relationships with my learners and used an effective system of sanctions and rewards with troubled teens. I show a strong capacity for classroom management and instructions. Students know what they need to do in an activity and the purpose of doing it with success. During the completion of the Award in Education and Training and the Certificate in Education and Training at Canterbury Christchurch University, I have developed strong TEACHING SKILLS in the classroom and strong speaking skills during this time preparing students for examinations in GCSE and A levels. I can anticipate the student's needs and how to implement new strategies to improve their skills in the target language. I enjoyed my lesson plan producing support worksheets with chunks, frames from speaking, key expressions, grammar reminders, flashcards with prompts, and different quizzes and strategies. I always set high expectations and underline the goals at the beginning of the lesson. I use extension activities for more advanced students to let them progress further. My sessions have always been student-centered with activities that encourage participation, problem-solving, and collaboration. In my sessions, students help peers to answer difficult questions. It has allowed me to monitor the students closely and take notes of their practice. I have reassured students and prepared them for a mock exam day. I have provided them with very detailed feedback fixing errors, adding vocabulary to expand their answers, giving sentence examples, remarking good expressions used, and giving guidance on how to improve speaking with an action plan. I have used varied types of exercises and approaches during the speaking practice to develop students' confidence in the language and passion for learning. I have always differentiated my students and levels, used different levels of complexity for the tasks, and adapted the appropriate pace for a group or a student. Constructive feedback and comments on their performance have encouraged students to speak with a positive attitude to the target language. It helped me to let students know where I want them to be. Students must be able to reflect on their work and understand what they need to achieve to aim higher. Celebrating success is as important as highlighting areas for improvement. I challenge and guide students with achievable targets that I have checked and revised. I have always used the school marking code strictly. Students can see from the marking strategy how they can improve their work and what they have done well. I have used official mark schemes and assets of students in speaking conversation. I have used different levels of difficulty in my tasks, starters, reflection, and plenary activities. Si quieres conseguir tus objetivos de español, ¡soy tu profesora de español! ¡Muchísimas gracias por tu tiempo! ¡A qué esperas para conseguir tus objetivos en español! Estoy deseando poder ayudarte a mejorar tu español. ¡Hasta pronto! Montse

How to find a Spanish Tutor on Justlearn.com?
If you want to find a tutor, you have to sign up to the Justlearn.com website or download a mobile app and then sign up. After you’ve signed up/ logged in, you choose your tutor and language you want to learn. It sounds so simple, but which tutor to choose? Honestly, it can be quite a problem because all of our tutors are true professionals. They go through thorough verification and validation process before start teaching. However, here are several suggestions on how to choose a tutor that suits you. When you click on language you want to learn, you see a list of all tutors of that language. By clicking to a tutor’s profile, you can see all of the tutor's details. We suggest choosing according to your requirements, whether it is availability, or an hourly rate, or maybe a tutor’s way of introducing him/herself. You can also, before choosing and deciding, send a message to a tutor, whether you have some question or any doubt. Find out what are requirements you find essential, and according to them, decide which tutor to choose. Finally, no matter who you want, we assure you, you will not regret it.
Can I study Spanish and other languages at once?
There is no limit on how many languages you can learn on Justlearn. You can choose how many you want to. Maybe you are a once born talent for languages and words, and you can learn more than five languages at once. Who knows? If you decide to learn, for example, three languages at once, be prepared to give your best. Try to learn almost every day, because learning three different languages (or more) requires three times better concentration and dedication. We suggest studying similar languages, it will be easier, especially if you start learning from the beginning. For example, it would be more smooth to learn Spanish, French, and Italian at the same time than Spanish, Russian, and Swedish. But do not feel demotivated. If you think you can do that too, then go ahead! And let us know how you are progressing.
How much does a lesson cost?
We have 3 subscription plans. 2 lessons per month for $29. 4 lessons per month for $49. 6 lessons per month for $69.
Can a student become a tutor in Justlearn?
It is common that at some point, people who were learning a language want to teach as well. Whether it is the beauty of teaching and passing the knowledge, communication with others, or after an enjoyable experience with his/her tutor realizing tutoring is the right job for him or her on the platform. Justlearn allows every person to become a tutor. However, he/she has to fulfill some requirements. Here are the most important of them: (1) A tutor can teach only his/her native language. (2) Filling out the Teacher's Application form is required. (3) Bachelor's degree minimum. For more information on how to become a tutor and fill out an Application form, please visit Help Center, tutors' section. Or you can simply go to Apply to Teach page.
What payment methods are supported?
We support Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal. No additional fees are added to the price.
What is the most important qualification that you should look out for in choosing a tutor?
Above all else, it's important for you and your tutor to be able to communicate in a common language. It may not be English because the tutor might be fluent in your native tongue, too. But if the tutor you chose is a native speaker of the language you want to learn and isn't fluent with your native language and you know how to speak in English, then make sure he can speak English, too.
What should you expect in learning a language?
Learning a new language takes time, lets you put in a bit more effort and resources to make it work. If you have a specific timeframe that you're following, then you'll need more of the three aspects to learn it. You should also expect that if it's just a bit too difficult for you, then you have to be open to your tutor about your difficulties so that what you've invested on will not go to waste. In that way, your tutor will be able to make adjustments and will help you achieve your goal.
How can you be more effective in learning a language?
Always be attentive in your lessons and when you're done with them, make sure that you are able to practice and apply what you learned. Your tutor will give you tips on how to practice on your own and might give you homework. If the tutor doesn't, then you can ask for it so you can keep practicing off schedule. You always have to help yourself while you're on your own so that when you're already out there and speaking with the locals, it's not that hard to pick up on what you learned anymore.
What factors should you consider in learning a language online?
Learning a language online needs you to invest in a good internet connection, if you don't have any yet, because it's the only way to work with a tutor. You also have to invest your time and if time is difficult to spare, you might as well choose a platform that allows you to choose your own schedule. You also need space, like a quiet room, where you can speak with the tutor and be able to focus on your lessons.
How can you help your language tutor be effective in teaching you?
Always be attentive with what your tutor is teaching you. It's the only way for you to understand and learn easily. Make sure that you follow the schedule that you agreed on or what you choose for yourself if that's how it works. You also have to participate in the activities that your tutor has planned for you because these have been tailored fit with the requirements that you have set. If you are asked to practice during the days when you don't have lessons, you have to religiously do so.
What kind of language tutor should you choose?
It really depends on your learning style. If you think you can learn better if the person is more of someone who teaches professionally then you can find someone who teaches that way. If you're the type who learns while just talking to the teacher, then you can opt for someone who's friendly, enthusiastic and fun but still focusing on the lesson at hand. Always read a tutor's personal introduction so you have a bit of an idea who they are and how they teach.
What's the advantage of hiring a tutor?
It's an advantage to hire a tutor because lessons will be customized for you and you'll be guided in learning them to make it more effective for you. You can easily interact with them and ask them to elaborate if something's not really that clear to you. They will also be able to give you feedback on your progress with your lessons and how far along you are in achieving your goals in learning the language.
How can learning a language benefit me other than being able to communicate with it?
Studies have proved that learning languages can help you with other mental processes as it sharpens your thinking skills. There's significant improvement in your memory, enhances your concentration, it helps you be able to multitask with ease and improves your listening comprehension skills. It also helps you solve problems easily because it enables you to critically be able to think to come up with effective solutions.
What should be your mindset so you can learn a new language easily?
If you already have a particular language in mind because you have goals to achieve, prepare yourself to learn it and be mentally ready to take risks. There will be times that you will struggle but it should always challenge you to work harder and do better. You have to be optimistic and determined that no matter how many obstacles you have, you're still willing to make it happen and be fluent in the language you want to learn.
How important is motivation in learning a language?
Before you decide to learn a new language, you have to be able to answer the question, "Why do you really want to learn?" It could be because you'll get a promotion at work, or for a new relationship, or because you want to get better grades in school and etc. There are many reasons why you want to push yourself to learn. Your reasons why you have to learn affects the level of motivation that you exhibit in learning and it also shows in the progress that you achieve.
