:) HIYA :) **I'm only interested in serious learners** I'm an American. I've taught English on and off since 1992. I enjoy helping people get what they want in life. If learning English is important to you, then it's important to me to help you :) I have learned Thai and Japanese to intermediate level, so understand well what it's like to learn languages. I have completed a 120-hour TESOL course. I did my Master's Degree in Thailand, with all the classes taught in Thai language. I've been studying how polyglots learn languages, have been using some myself, and am prepared to share some with you.
Bachelor's of Science in Cultural Anthropology; Master's of Science in Agricultural Development - University of California, Santa Cruz (USA); Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai (Thailand)
The anthropology education gave me a broad perspective on cultures of the world, which has been useful for life outside of my home country, the USA, and to a lesser extent, while teaching English. The research I needed to do for my agricultural development degree has had a mild impact on me as a teacher and tutor, mostly in terms of the motivation needed to accomplish something. With respect to learning language, motivation is crucial. And, it's something I'm happy to help my students with.
1992 - Present
English teacher / tutor
Teaching and tutoring - Taught at NOVA English School in Japan from 1992 to 1994. Tutored ESL students at College of San Mateo, California, from 1996 to 1997. Taught and tutored in various capacities in Thailand, from 2000 to 2006, then again from 2010 to 2017. Taught children and a few adults at English for Korea from 2006 to 2009. Taught at a couple of English centers in Vietnam from 2017 to 2018. Started teaching online in January, 2018.
I've been developing an approach to teaching that is modeled after how polyglots learn languages and some of my own ideas. It's a serious approach, and honestly, I've met few students who are serious enough to apply much of what I ask. That's okay, but it'd be cool to have more students motivated to try these ideas. I use some of them in learning Vietnamese, which has been an enormous struggle for me!
