5 Easy Ways to Improve Your English Writing Skills

If you want to learn English, you need to learn how to write it.

So, how can you do that?

We asked some of our tutors here at Justlearn, and we have a few awesome methods to share with you.

Just write

You can't improve your English writing skills if you are not writing. So, the key thing is to 'just write'. Try to write in English as much as you possibly can. It doesn't matter if you feel that you are terrible at the language. You just need to write. Improvements will come over time.

If you know what you want to write but can't find the correct word, don't skip over. Instead, pull out your dictionary and find that word. Use it. As you write that word down, you will be reinforcing it in your mind, and you probably won't have to look it up again.

Writing is fantastic for improving both vocabulary and grammar.

Ask an English speaker to read your writing

If you have a tutor from Justlearn, then they will be able to do this for you. If you don't (we seriously suggest that you get a tutor), then ask a good friend to read through whatever you have written and ask if any corrections need to be made with it. There probably will be corrections that need to be made, so take them on board and improve your writing the next time.

What should you be writing?

As we said before, you really should be writing whatever you can. We want to give you a few things that would really improve your writing skills, though.

Blog

No. You do not have to blog with the intention of somebody reading it. However, you should still make sure that whatever blog you write is online. There is a good reason for this.

Firstly, with blogging, people tend to write about what they enjoy the most. They write about things that happen in their day-to-day life. This is the best type of writing practice you can get in. You will be writing about things that you will probably be writing and talking about for years and years to come. You should never write about something random unless you really want to build up your vocab.

The reason why you want it online is so that you can look back over your blog in a few months and see just how much your writing skills improved in that time. This is highly motivational.

Forum Posting

Forum posting (or using a site like Reddit) can also help your writing skills come on in leaps and bounds. You will be writing about something that you really enjoy writing about but, at the same time, you will be improving your reading skills too. All in all, forum posting is going to make you a much better English speaker.

Social Media

Finally, social media is a great way to improve your writing skills. Talk to people through Instant Messanger programs (make sure they are English speakers, of course) and, once again, you will be improving your reading and writing skills.

Put everything here into practice and we can assure you that writing in English will be a lot more fun!
